Triage
This course will describe and present through slide presentation ocular emergencies, urgent situations, and routine situations. The course will present questions to ask during telephone conversations to determine the degree of urgency.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
1. Describe various types of emergent, urgent, and routine eye
situations.
2. Explain how to screen calls and receive the appropriate information
from patients.
3. Describe which situations need preferential treatment as a "true
ocular emergency".
4. Demonstrate the use of a chart listing the emergency situation, the
urgent situation, and the routine situation outlined in the Ophthalmic
Medical Assisting Home study course book by the AAO.
