This summer of 2013 for the first time ever, Ophthalmic Seminars of San Antonio and I Care San Antonio have teamed up to provide a continuing education program for the San Antonio and surrounding area ophthalmic assistants and optometric assistants. You need not be certified to attend any of these courses.
Ophthalmic Seminars of San Antonio is happy to be a part of this ground breaking event!
Ophthalmic Seminars of San Antonio (OSSA) provide affordable training for allied health personnel in ophthalmology and optometry.
OMT certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and paraoptometric assistants and technicians that are certified by the Commission on Paraoptometric Certification (CPC) can obtain continuing education credits when attending seminars offered by OSSA.
OSSA also provide seminars to non-certified personnel who are preparing to take a certification test or certified personnel and non-certified personnel who just want to learn specific techniques that will improve their value to the practice in which they work.
I Care San Antonio, a 501 © (3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1992 by Christians to share the love of Jesus Christ by providing dilated eye exams, refractions and glasses, medical and surgical eye care to the indigent of San Antonio. I Care San Antonio is currently located in a five thousand square foot facility with state of the art equipment located at the Haven for Hope campus. Over 25 doctors volunteer on a regular basis to see 2,000 patients a year from San Antonio and 10 surrounding counties. I Care San Antonio sends two surgical mission teams to Bolivia and Peru each year.
In addition, to helping our low income and homeless families get the much needed eye care, we have also started an ophthalmic assistant training program to better educate the ophthalmic assistants and prepare them for their ophthalmic career and certification exam. This brings up the skill level and education of the ophthalmic personnel that support the doctors at our clinic and in the community. I Care San Antonio provide continuing education programs for the doctors and ophthalmic personnel in our community. Our pilot program currently has 17 students enrolled and is scheduled to apply this year for accreditation from Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
